Concrete Surface Preparation, Grout Repairs & Chemical-Resistant Lining
Project Overview
Nuvo Flooring undertook a specialised industrial flooring project involving the rehabilitation and protection of an existing concrete substrate through the installation of a reinforced resin lining system.
The project focused on restoring damaged surfaces, strengthening the protective lining and delivering a durable, chemical-resistant finish suitable for demanding industrial conditions.
Surface Preparation & Repairs
The installation began with targeted grout repairs to address damaged and deteriorated sections of the existing floor.
Mechanical grinding was then carried out to remove surface laitance, exposing a sound concrete substrate and creating a suitable profile for resin adhesion.
Anchors were cut along the perimeter to accommodate and secure the lining system, providing additional support at critical termination points.
Reinforced Resin Lining Installation
Following surface preparation, the concrete was primed with vinyl ester resin to establish a strong bond between the substrate and the protective lining.
A layer of chopped strand fibreglass mat was then installed using laminating resin, creating a reinforced composite lining designed to improve durability and structural integrity.
Once the laminate had cured sufficiently, the surface was denibbed to remove protruding fibres and imperfections. An additional layer of laminating resin was applied where necessary to achieve a consistent protective finish.
Slip-Resistant Finishing & Sealing
To enhance surface traction, aggregate was broadcast into the wet resin, creating a textured, slip-resistant finish.
The system was completed with a compatible vinyl ester or epoxy topcoat, providing the final protective seal and contributing to the lining's resistance to wear and chemical exposure.
Project Outcome
The completed system provided a reinforced, chemical-resistant protective lining over the prepared concrete substrate.
