Project Overview
Nuvo Flooring completed a specialised acid-proofing and corrosion protection project at a large-scale mining facility in 2020.
The project involved rehabilitating and protecting an 840 m² concrete bunded structure exposed to hydrochloric acid (HCl).
The installation required a high-performance chemical-resistant lining system, extensive concrete repairs and precise execution within a strict seven-day timeframe.
The Challenge
The existing concrete structure had become weak and degraded, creating an unsuitable substrate for direct application of a protective lining.
With ongoing exposure to hydrochloric acid, the client required a durable corrosion-resistant solution capable of protecting the concrete against further chemical deterioration.
An additional challenge was the exceptionally short installation window, requiring all necessary concrete repairs, surface preparation and lining application to be completed within just seven days.
Our Solution
Nuvo Flooring implemented a vinyl ester-based corrosion-resistant lining system, selected for its chemical resistance and suitability for aggressive industrial environments.
The project involved rehabilitating damaged concrete, preparing the substrate and installing the specialist protective lining throughout the bunded structure.
The vinyl ester system provided a chemical-resistant barrier designed to protect the concrete against hydrochloric acid exposure and extend the service life of the structure.
Project Execution
Despite the challenging substrate conditions, Nuvo Flooring successfully completed the 840 m² installation within seven days.
The team combined efficient project coordination, specialist surface preparation and experienced lining application to meet the client's demanding deadline without compromising the specified installation requirements.
Project Outcome
The completed installation delivered a rehabilitated concrete bunded structure with a specialist acid-resistant protective lining.
At the last reported inspection, approximately five years after installation, the protective system was still performing satisfactorily, demonstrating its durability in a demanding chemical environment.
